Baygitano - West Bay

Postby smurf » Tue Feb 05, 2008 9:23 am

This is a wreck of a well-flattened steamer, lying approx 1.5 miles due South of the Cobb at Lyme Regis. The only parts of the wreck

which stand up are the boilers, engine and the bow section.

Known to the local divers as The Baggy. The history of this wreck can be found in local books, on

wreck in Dorset, also found in diving in Dorset.

The vis on this wreck is generally extremely good with 10m the norm in the summer months. The wreck can be dived at ALL states of
the tide and is sheltered from Northerly winds up to a force 5. The depth on the wreck is a uniform 21m at High Water, as it lies on a

fairly flat seabed.

Just returned from another great dive on the Baygitano at Westbay.

Once again this wreck has an abundance of life in and around it, but unfortunatly on this occasion the visibility although quite good for diving with 3-4m vis, it was abit milky for taking photos.

This is a superb wreck for divers who enjoy looking in nooks and crannies, it has been teaming with life on both my visits so far, sometimes hard to see through the walls of fish.

I have posted some photo's here, sorry they are not as good as usual.

In days of old
When divers were cold
And before dry suits were invented
The best latrine
was neoprene
Especially if it was rented
